- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulder portrait photograph of a ranking Detroit Fire Department firefighter, in profile facing the right. He has a beard and wears a kepi hat with three crossed bugles on its badge, with a double-breasted coat. The photo was previously housed in on the left side of a three-part cardstock frame with alongside a photo of James Battle, and another ranking firefighter. "October 1881," is handwritten on the verso.

- Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing the ruins of Harmonie Hall and the Boydell Bros. Building after a fire. The view shows the fronts and one side of the charred remains of the brick and stone buildings. Many spectators can be seen on the street near the two buildings. Handwriting on the verso shows "Harmonie Hall & Boydell Bros. Bldg., SW corner of Beaubien and Champlain (now E. Lafayette), October 14, 1893."

Elliott and Mark H. Gascoigne, First Battalion Chief John Kendall, Second Battalion Chief James C. Broderick, Third Battalion Chief William J. Gowan, Superintendent of Horses Allan. Armstrong, and Master Mechanic Francis Beaufait, as well as a photo of Detroit Fire Department Headquarters on the northeast corner of Wayne Street and Larned Street. Images of several pieces of firefighting equipment for a design surrounding the portrait of Battle, and the left edge of the image. A.G. - Sepia-toned albumen photo of a Detroit Fire Department horse-drawn ladder truck that is parked on Larned Street in front of the Fire Department Headquarters building. The old headquarters building was located at the corner of Wayne (now Washington Blvd.) and Larned St. and the name, "Larned," can be seen on the glass of the streetlight that is located on the left side of the photo. "Fire Department Headquarters" is written over the arched doorway that is located at the far right side of the ornate 3-story brick building. The shop of horseshoer, T. W. Leonard (Thomas W. Leonard, 78 Larned St. W.), can be seen just to the right of the headquarters building. Handwriting on the verso notes "The new 1883 Hayes-LaFrance 86' aerial truck of 'Rescue' Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 in front of original fire headquarters. The large aerial ladder was raised by cranking the long worm gear attached to the turntable. The rear steersman (tiller) was seated at the rear over the wheels and under the main ladder."

- Mounted sepia-toned group portrait photograph of twelve uniformed firefighters posed outside in front of a brick wall. Six men sit in chairs in the front, and six stand behind them. The fifth seated man from the left is identified as Engineer William Mauron[?]. Mauron and the two men to his left all have bugle insignia on their collars indicating their ranks. The photo is mounted on black mat board. "Geo. E. Ash, 452 Junction Ave." is printed on the verso.

- Sepia-toned gelatin silver photo showing the interior of the fire station of Engine Company No. 21 with nine firemen who are preparing to answer a call. Two firemen can be seen sliding down a pole on the left side of the photo while the other firemen are hitching the horses to the steam fire engine. A system of lines and pulleys can be seen on the ceiling of the station which is being used to lower the harnesses onto the horses. A firemen's belt with the number, "21," can be seen hanging from the driver's seat just above the left front wheel. The photo was taken at night so there is a fair amount of light reflection which tends to wash out the image. The mounting cardboard is printed in black ink at the top, "Taken At Night." The photographer's name is printed in black ink in the lower left corner: "J. Forster & Son, 178-180 Gratiot Ave., Detroit." The lower right corner is printed in black ink, "Headquarters for Flashlights."
