A mounted, sepia-toned print of a "flashlight photo" of a firehouse interior where a fire engine is hitched up to a pair of horses and surrounded by ten firefighters--four riding on the engine, three handling the horses with another approaching, one opening the door, and the last sliding down the fire pole. A number 3 is visible on the stack of the fire engine, suggesting this is Engine Company No. 3. - Mounted sepia-toned photograph taken of the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, as viewed from Griswold Street, south of State Street facing north. Icicles hang from the building's facade, and rubble has settled around its base. The spray from firehoses arcs over Griswold Street and Rowland Street (now Shelby Street) in the background. Two fire engines are in the street in the immediate foreground. A crowd is gathered on the sidewalks. Signs for Frank, Ingils, Druggists; and Solomon S. Bateson and Brother, Tailors are posted on storefronts, and a street light advertises "Billiards and Café." The photo is mounted on beige cardstock. "From Alvord & Co. Exclusively, Commercial Photographers, 55 Rowland St. Detroit, Mich., Ground Floor," is stamped on the verso, and "Capitol High School on fire - Jan. 27, 1893. Firemen fighting blaze, front view." is handwritten.

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Jerome Croul. This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. The decorative engraved logo of the photographer (Randall) has been torn off of the verso of the cabinet card photo. The proof bears the name of "Geo. Francis Train" at the bottom, and a stamp for Randall, 220 & 222 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich." is shown on the verso.

- Sepia-toned gelatin silver photo of five firemen, a horse-drawn hose wagon, and a horse-drawn steam fire engine as they are leaving the fire station. The group is Steam Engine Company No. 9 and the number, "9," can be seen on the side of the hose wagon just below the driver's seat. The brick fire station and open doors are visible in the background. A carved stone above the doors shows "A.D. 1901." Several other brick buildings can be seen in the background on the left side of the photo.

- Sepia-toned photograph of a team of three Detroit Fire Department horses fully bridled and pulling an engine, as part of the ceremonial final run of a horse-drawn Detroit Fire Department apparatus on April 10, 1922 on Woodward Avenue. Two men are seen faintly in the distance driving the team. On verso it is noted, "For Hon. H.C. Murphy, from the late Augusta D. von Schrader, Last Run of the Fire Horses."

- Mounted black and white photo of the aerial apparatuses of the Detroit Fire Department's Ladder Companies No.1 and No.3 being used to fight a fire at the Goldberg Brothers' department store on the west side of Woodward Avenue between Grand River and Clifford Street, as viewed from across the street to the northeast. Firefighters work amid broken windows and display cases along the base of the building. A large clearance banner and a "Store for rent" sign are posted on the Grinnell Brothers' Music House next door to Goldberg Brothers. Clough and Warren Company, Pianos; Wood's Ladies Haus; and the William B. Elliott Company are also posted along the block. Several bystanders are also in frame. The photo is mounted on black matte board, with a border relief around the image. "Fred G. Wright, Detroit, Mich. 115 Gratiot Ave. Phone MAIN 5488," is stamped on the verso. - Sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of a Detroit fireman. The badge on the cap reads, "DFD 203" and the badge on the jacket reads, "Detroit 203." The bottom of the image notes the photography studio of, "Friend & Smith, 244 - 246 Woodward Ave, Detroit." Noted on verso, "Wm. Sullivan," this is possibly an image of William Sullivan. Sullivan was a Lieutenant for Hook and Ladder Co. No. 2.

A horse drawn hose apparatus carrying five firefighters is stopped in the street in front of a firehouse decorated with stone reliefs of crossed ladders and bugles. - Photo. Full length, sepia-toned, oval portrait of James Battle, chief of the Detroit Fire Department in 1870 (as identified on verso). Battle is posing in a "chief" sash, and next to a "chief engineer" helmet, and horn. Battle was noted for being first paid chief of the department after its formation in 1865. Photo is printed on cardstock.

- Sepia-toned photo of five firemen on a ladder who are fighting a fire. The base of the ladder is located on a fire truck and the top of the ladder has been set to access a window on the top floor of a 4-story brick building. A firehose can be seen along the length of the ladder. One fireman is located at the base of the ladder, another is midway, and three are at the top with the firehose. A sign on the front of the building indicates that a dental office is located inside although the name of the business is partly obscured by the ladder.
