- Mounted, oval-shaped sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of a man with a beard, wearing a suit. Areas of his beard, eyes, and the shadow on his face have been retouched in ink. A handwritten note on the verso suggests that the subject is Detroit Fire Department chief James Battle, however he does not resemble Battle in portraits taken later in his life. A Grelling and Company stamp is impressed near the bottom of the image.

- Large sepia-toned group portrait photograph of the firefighters of K.C. Barker Company No. 4, posed with their horse-drawn fire engine in front of their fire station, presumably at Orchard Street and Fifth Street during a memorial event for Abraham Lincoln. A young girl in a dress decorated with a ribbon, a harp, a small portrait of Lincoln, banners, garland, and a small flag are on the engine. The majority of the firefighters wear matching shirts, pants, helmets, and belts printed with "K.C. Barker." The men standing on the engine wear peaked caps, and one standing on the rear also wears a belt identifying him as an engineer. Two of the men on the far left hold bugles. One of them wears a "foreman," belt, the other wears one that is only partially legible, "2nd A[...]." The two men to their right both lean on an upright hose nozzle. The station in the background is a two-story brick structure, and two people peer from its upper windows. A hose apparatus is in the street on the left edge of the frame. Several spectators are also visible in the background. The photo is mounted on linen.

- Hardcover journal of the activities of Engine Company No. 42, recording alarms, fires, orders, and other events spanning September 1, 1920 to September 14, 1921. Tables of fuel consumption and mileage on their apparatus are on the final pages of the book. The book is bound in a stained green cover with red corners. "42," is handwritten on the cover.

- Mounted sepia-toned photographic print showing fire tug JAMES BATTLE underway with four crewmembers visible on deck. Handwritten on verso, " fireboat "James Battle" launched at Det. shipbuilding yards in Wyandotte on Oct. 13 1900, went into service at foot of fifth St. on Jan. 15 1901, length 122 ft., beam 25 ft., draft 11 ft., speed 14 m.p.h. in 1936, was converted to diesel engine was decommisioned Feb. 1940 was sold to Sincennes-McNaughton firm of Montreal Canada, was streamlined into a tugboat and was still in service in 1972."

- Hardcover letter book containing duplicates produced with a letter copying press of letters mailed by Detroit Fire Marshals George Dunlop and William H. Baxter, as well as an Assistant Fire Marshall James E. Tryon, spanning October 10, 1877 to September 11, 1886. The letters are mostly in chronological order, with a tabbed alphabetical table of contents section at the front listing the recipients. The book is bound in a brown cloth-covered cover. "Letters," and "Fire Marshall" are printed on the spine.

- Detroit Fire Department active duty certificate engraved by Capewell and Kimmel and dated July 17, 1855. The spaces for the name of the firefighter has been left blank. The document bears the signatures of President Jerome Croul, Treasurer Alexander Paton, and Secretary Benjamin Vernor, beside a blue embossed Fire Department of the City of Detroit seal. Illustrations of uniformed firefighters, an early fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, the seal of the State of Michigan, and Neptune flanked by two winged monsters are bordered by scrollwork. The certificate is mounted on linen.

- Invitation card to the Fifth Annual Fireman's Ball held by the Association of Ex-Members Detroit Steam Fire Department at Bamlet's Hall on Grand River Avenue and Rowland Street, on Monday, April 16, 1900, printed in red on white. The Metropolitan Band are listed as the entertainment. A brown and red illustration of a horse-drawn fire engine serves as the background. The ticket price is listed as $1. "No. 0" is printed in the lower right corner. It has been embossed with a seal consisting of a loop of fire hose encircling a ladder, and a crossed hook, ax, and bugles, beneath a fire helmet.
