- Certificate from the Joseph W. Selden, Deputy Secretary of State of the State of Michigan, dated September 17, 1895, declaring at the Articles of Association of the Springwells Volunteer Fire Department Company A were filed. The document is signed by Selden, bears a metallic stamp of the seal of the State of Michigan, and an engraving of the seal in the header. The certificate is mounted on linen.

- Resolution, printed on a large piece of cardstock, from the Fire Commission of the City of Detroit memorializing Mark Henry Gascoigne following his death. The resolution is signed by James E. Tryon, Peter Henkel, Benjamin Vernor, Rufus W. Gillett, and Jerome Croul. The resolution reads: At a meeting of the Fire Commission of the City of Detroit held January 19, 1885, the following preamble and resolutions were adopted Whereas God in his infinite wisdom has removed from the walks of life Mark H. Gascoigne, Superintendent of the Telegraph of the Detroit Fire Department. A man who was ever faithful and ever true in the performance of the duties of his position. In recognition of this closing of a long career as an Officer of the Department of the Fire Commission of the City of Detroit does hereby Resolve, That in the death of Mark H. Gascoigne the Fire Department has lost a most efficient officer: the city an hones and good citizen and devoted servant and the world a noble chivalrous man who lived for the good of his fellows. Resolved, That while the ties which bound him to the Commissioners Officers and men of the Department by hooks of steel have been severed by the hand of Death, his bright record of good works will live forever, pictures which shall adorn the walls of memory until times shall be no more. Resolved, That his fidelity and staunch loyalty to duty justly entitles his name to a place on the roll of honor as one who has wrought unceasingly to uphold the standard of this Department. Resolved, That this preamble and resolutions be spread upon the record of the Commission, and a copy there of be placed in the Central Office of the Fire Alarm Telegraph; and a copy transmitted to the family of the deceased. - Sepia-toned photo of a fireman who is standing beside a speaking trumpet that is resting on a small table. The fireman is wearing his uniform which includes a long, double-breasted coat, decorative belt, and fireman's hat. The number, "1," is visible on his badge and belt buckle. In the collar area, his shirt appears to be hand-colored in purple. Handwriting on the verso notes, "W. Cooper, Capt. Ladder Co. No. 1; Time Book Record A-117; Died Sept. 2, 1884."

- Sepia-toned photo showing the firemen of Phoenix Steam Engine Company No. 3. The view shows nine firemen in uniform who are standing in front of a hose apparatus and a steam engine. Several bystanders can be seen at the back end of the steam engine near the right side of the image. The brick fire station building is visible in the background and the street name sign, "Clifford Street," can be seen on the corner of the building near the upper left corner of the photo.

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulder portrait photograph of a ranking Detroit Fire Department firefighter, in profile facing the left. He has a moustache and goatee, and wears a kepi hat with two crossed bugles on its badge, with a double-breasted coat. The photo was previously housed on the right side of a three-part cardstock frame with alongside a photo of James Battle, and another ranking firefighter. "October 1881," is handwritten on the verso.

- Photograph. A mounted, glossy photographic print of the crew of the private fire department of Parke, Davis, and Company. Fifty eight firefighters pose in six rows as well as on ladders at each end. Hooks, axes, fire extinguishers, and plenty of hose are visible among the crowd. A sign suspended above reads, "Parke, Davis & Co." Photo is mounted on a green cardstock matting. Handwriting on verso reads, "1895-1900, Standing L-R 1st row Dr. John M. Francis; Leon Fink, Fire Chief." "WM. H. Hart, Photographer, 361 Meldrum Avenue, Detroit, Mich." also printed on verso.

- Sepia-toned photograph, head and shoulders view of a Detroit Fireman, cap badge reads, "DFD 208," and the badge on his jacket reads, "Detroit Fire Department 208." The name of the photographer is mostly torn off at the bottom of the image, but was probably "F. Friend, 244 & 246 Woodward Ave., Detroit" which matches other similar photos in this collection. Written on verso, "William Doty."
