- Reddish-brown clay. Serapis, beareded, sits on an elaborate thrown, with rosettes on the arm-rests and incised designs on the back. His feet rest on a stool, right foot advanced and left drawn back. Thin chiton clings to body, revealing musculature, and contrasting texturally with the himation. Beneath modius, hair is long and wavy. Raised left hand holds a sceptor, while right hand pats central head of Cerberus, who crouches next to the throne. Intended as decorative attachment to the vertical band-handle of a terracotta lamp. Black stains on lower front. Hollow-moulded in two pieces and sealed at sides. Circular vent in back. Bottom open. Foreshortened rectangular base, shown in two planes. Back rounded and incised to imitate thorough perforations. Lamp handle fragment: Serapis. Clay (Death Dogs, Wilfong).
