- Photograph (1 positive print and 1 negative print). Sepia-toned photo showing one fireman seated at the steering wheel of a 1910 Packard rescue wagon. The wagon has the number, "30," shown on the side. Fireman's helmets as well as a folding canvas life-saving net are visible on the side of the wagon. Large wooden doors (possibly of a fire station) can be seen in the background of the photo. The number, "0488b,"is written in the lower right corner of the photo. The name of the photographer, "Spooner & Wells, Inc., 1231 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Mich." is stamped in blue ink on the verso.

- Program booklet for the Second Annual Fireman's Ball held by the Association of Ex-Members Detroit Steam Fire Department at the Light Guard Armory on Tuesday, January 12, 1897. The booklet consists of a half-folded sheet bound with white string ending in a yellow tassel into a half-folded cover with a red illustration of a horse-drawn fire engine against a white and blue background on the front. The program of dances to be performed to the music of Schremser's Orchestra, as well as the list of committee members are contained within. The program was printed by Hunter and Schenren at 178 Brush Street.

- Small ledger book, bound in a dark brown leather, used by Martin Cooney, the Superintendent of Horses for the Detroit Fire Department to record the purchase of horses, spanning November 23, 1882 to January 23, 1914. The book was manufactured by the Gregory, Mayer and Thom Company of Detroit, and it contains the pre-printed column headers, "date," "color," "sex," "age," "weight," "price," "bought of," and "how disposed of." A small scrap of paper was found inside the book, printed with: President McGraw has announced the following Committees: Men..............McGraw Katz Finance.........Bosquett Chittenden Horses..........Chittenden Bosquett Telegraph......Bosquett Katz Supplies........Chittenden McGraw Buildings.......Katz Chittenden Apparatus......McGraw Bosquett Water............Katz McGraw supply and consumption of hay and oats by the department's horses, spanning January 1, 1907 to January 6, 1917. - Hardcover book containing the handwritten minutes from the meetings of Mechanics Company No. 8, as well as its constitution and by-laws, brief accounts of several fires, and some financial records spanning its founding on December 6, 1848 to its dissolution on April 14, 1856, in protest of an ordinance that forbid the company from pulling their hand-drawn fire apparatus along sidewalks. The passages are attributed to the group's secretaries--in order--C.F. Morris, H. Willson, Alexander Lambie, D.C. Whitman, E.P. Warden, John McNamara, Thomas McWilliams, James Cavanagh, and Isaac C. Wallace. The pages following the dissolution of the company include math problems and multiplication tables, the lyrics to the ballad "She Was Bred in Old Kentucky," a drawing resembling a plumbing diagram, the outline of several pressed leaves, and several geometric sketches. The book is bound in a brown cover and "Record," and "Mechanics Fire Co. No. 8," are printed on the its spine. A handwritten inscription on a front flyleaf reads, "April 12, 1856, This book is presented to Isaac C. Wallace by Mechanic Fire Company No. 8."

- Photo. Full length, sepia-toned, oval portrait of James Battle, chief of the Detroit Fire Department in 1870 (as identified on verso). Battle is posing in a "chief" sash, and next to a "chief engineer" helmet, and horn. Battle was noted for being first paid chief of the department after its formation in 1865. Photo is printed on cardstock.
