- Description:
- Color postcard depicting an aerial view of Water Works Park, with the Hurlbut Library, roads, trees and waterways visible. In the background is a ship on the Detroit River and Ontario beyond. Printed on verso: Birds'-Eye View, Water Works Park. The 72-acre plot of ground on Jefferson Avenue, owned by the city and partially occupied by its water works pumping station, has been made one of Detroit's beauty spots. The water supply is pumped through a long tunnel from the intake pipe in Lake St. Clair to the distributing point. The ponderous machinery can pump 102,000,000 gallons of water in 24 hours. This view was taken from the tower, showing the library in lower left hand corner and Belle Isle in the distance. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Sep 16, 1910.
