- Thomas Morefield talks about his career at REO Motor Car Company/Diamond-Reo Trucks, Inc., in Lansing, MI, from 1960 to 1975. Morefield describes his childhood, joining REO to work with other family members, the various jobs he held, and building military vehicles. Morefield says that moving from the union ranks into management strained many of his relationships in the plant, and that losing his union seniority as a manager was an unnerving experience. The interviewer is Shirley Bradley. Recorded as part of the commemoration of the REO Motor Car Company’s 100th Anniversary.

- Prose and poetry writer Kathleen McGookey reads from her book of poetry about living in France called "Whatever shines". She talks about finding inspiration in the photographs and journals of her grandparents, writing about her grandfather's Alzheimer's disease and his work to save Purple Martins. McGookey reads from her most recent work, an unpublished children's book. The recording ends abruptly and is incomplete. She is introduced by MSU Librarian Peter Berg for the Michigan State University Libraries' Michigan Writers Series.

- Elizabeth Byington describes her suburban Detroit family life and tells how her aspirations have changed between high school and her sophomore year at Michigan State University. Byington says she no longer has an immediate interest in marriage and children and has changed her major to something which she finds more satisfying. Byington also discusses her college experiences, the quality of her professors, career possibilities, and her hopes for the future. Byington says she expects to enjoy her future career and although her peers are much too focused on material things, she does not think that they deserve to be labeled the "me generation".

- At a Michigan State University "study away" class held in Washington, D.C., Elmer Chatak, former secretary-treasurer of the Industrial Union Department of the AFL-CIO, talks about his father, who was one of the first full-time organizers for the Steel Workers Organizing Committee (SWOC) and his own introduction to the labor movement. Chatak also talks about his career as a union organizer, the many positions he held in the AFL-CIO, and how unions and union locals are formed. He takes questions from the class.

- Jacinta Maria Rocking-Stringer, a visiting English and drama student from the University of Surrey in England, talks about her youth in England, her parents and family, and her family's place in the class structure in England. She compares students in the British university system with the American students she has met at Michigan State University, saying that Americans are less focused, less serious about their studies, and more prone to abuse their new found freedoms while away from home. She also talks about her dream of becoming an actor and how she hopes to be able to balance a professional life wtih having a family.

- Marilyn Shadduck talks about her career at REO Motor Car Company/Diamond-Reo Trucks, Inc., in Lansing, MI, from 1942 to 1975. Shadduck describes her youth, going to weekly free movies at the REO Clubhouse, working at REO through the war years, being selected as "Miss REO", raising a family, and being part of the "REO family" until the plant closed. She talks about the dissolution of the company, the loss of the pension fund, and the start of Spartan Motors by former REO workers. She says that REO "was a great place to work". - Michigan State University senior Nimesh Patel says he is majoring in social science and psychology and hopes to earn a law degree and a doctorate in international relations and finally join the foreign service. Patel talks about his Indian heritage, his parents, their emphasis on education, the sacrifices made by their families, and the professional pursuits of his sisters. Patel describes the village his father came from and says that his own visit to India changed the way he looks at the world and made him more appreciative of life in the U.S. He also talks about the adjustment to college life and socializing with students from all over the country. - Michigan State University senior Charlette Pugh talks about her youth in Muskegon and racially divided Benton Harbor, MI, her African-American heritage, her role models, her relationships with her siblings, her high school curriculum, and growing up with parents who are black professionals in a predominately Jewish part of town. Pugh, who entered college at age sixteen, says that she wants to be a lawyer and own her own business or law firm one day.

- Dave talks about being hired in August 1976, his first day in the Body Shop jungle, and a variety of pranks. He tells of beginning his apprenticeship in 1979 and receiving his journeyman's card 1989. Dave discusses lines of demarcation, overtime, wages, family issues and working Sundays when families of the tradesmen would come to the plant and picnic outside.
