- Professor H. Jakobsohn, from the University of Marburg, interviews Russian prisoners at Puchheim regarding their condition in the prison camp. Professor Jakobsohn led the Deutsche Kommission which examined medical and labor conditions in POW camps in Germany.

- French and Russian prisoners enjoy a walk with a German non-commissioned officer and a Landsturm guard during their recuperation from wounds or illnesses. These POW's work as assistants in the hospital post office and canteen.

- The Bulgarian Army held captured Serbian prisoners in the tower at the end of the main street in Struga during the invasion of Serbia in October 1915. The Serbian Army was pinned down by an Austro-German offensive and the Bulgarians helped overwhelm the Serbian defenders.

- Prisoners in Katzenau received these low denomination prison bank notes (10-Heller) in payment for their work. This money could only be used to make payments inside of the prison compound, which limited their value in terms of potential bribery of guards or to bank roll escape attempts.

- An American and a French POW play a game of checkers, while another prisoner drinks tea and a French prisoner writes a letter. Arab, French, and British prisoners watch the competition as spectators. The wide range of nationalities in the photograph depicts the world war the Central Powers faced in Europe.

- After their arrival in French territory, newly released American prisoners received "comfort bags" from the American Red Cross. Red Cross personnel stand to the right in front of the Red Cross truck with French troops in the rear.

- This German military pass permitted Henry Mahoney, a British civilian who had been interned by the German government in September 1914, to travel from Sennelager to Koeln and eventual repatriation to Britain via the Netherlands.

- Drawing of a German trench raid with a French prisoner in tow; both sides conducted trench raids on the Western Front to develop fighting experience, keep the enemy on their toes, and to collect intelligence by capturing prisoners.

- This photograph shows a mace, used by the Germans to kill wounded Allied POW's. This mace had a flexible handle and a strap. It was undoubtedly used in close combat in the trenches and not necessarily employed to dispatch wounded men.
