Dedication of Pioneer Cemetery

Notes:
May 1939 (Memorial Day) photograph taken at the dedication of the Pioneer Cemetery at Carpenter's Corners on Packard Road, perhaps the first cemetery in Ypsilanti. Behind the stone enclosure were the graves of Emily Whittemore, the first white person to die in Washtenaw County in 1825 and the daughter of Luke and Phoebe Whittemore, on whose land the cemetery was created, and John Terhune (1759-1839).
