John S. Bennett Collection

Description:

This collection was created by John Sherwood Bennett. He was born on October 18, 1848 in London, England. He arrived in the U.S. by port of New Orleans on November 28, 1853 at age 5. He died on July 25, 1929 in Lansing, MI. John married Sarah in 1873 who was born in 1853 in England and died in 1923. He is buried at Mt. Hope cemetery and was mayor of Lansing from 1908-1911. The collection contains bankbooks, advertisements, correspondence, ledgers, masonic materials, photographs, poems, and receipts.
