The certificate contains the signatures of Controller Emery J. Garfield, and Mayor Alexander Lewis, a metallic gold embossed seal of the City of Detroit, engraved imagery from the seal, affixed sepia-toned head-and-shoulder portrait photographs of the fire commissioners Peter Henkel (top left), Jerome Croul (bottom left), Joseph Godfrey (top right), and Benjamin Vernor (bottom right). The certificate is mounted on linen.
