Description:
Author, poet, artist and journeyman electrician Susan Eisenberg delivers a talk titled, "On equal terms: women's struggles in the construction workplace". Eisenberg talks about the history of women in construction and building trades, apprentice programs, and government influence. She talks about the nature of the work, the danger, job insecurity, wages and benefits. Eisenberg says that women have had a difficult time being successful in the face of continued discrimination. A question and answer follows the talk and then Eisenberg leads a tour of her display in the Michigan State University Museum. Eisenberg is introduced by Professor John P. Beck, Associate Director, Michigan State University School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Part of the "Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives" Brown Bag series sponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations, the MSU Museum, the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction, the MSU Center for Gender in Global Context, and the MSU Women's Resource Center.
