Sepia-toned photo showing a railroad bridge under construction over the Rouge River
- Description:
- Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing a railroad bridge under construction over the Rouge River. Printed text in the lower left corner of the photo shows the number, "43," and "M.C.R.R. River Rouge Bascule Bridge; Erecting Lift Span; Mar. 27, 1920. Photo W. B. James, Insp." The view looks southeastward from the bank of the Rouge River and shows the truss structure that supports the bridge counterweights and lift span. The lift span is located at the far right side of the structure and a construction crane is lifting one of the structural members into position. The 2-story brick building for the bridge operator can be seen at the far left side of the photo. Near the center of the photo, a sign on the top of the river bank shows "Cables, Do Not Drag Anchor."
