Worship of the North.
- Notes:
- A white man is being sacrificed to an African American idol sitting atop a shrine labeled "Chicago Platform." Henry Ward Beecher holds a sacrificial knife, Charles Sumner carries a torch, and Horace Greeley swings a censer which emits snakes. Benjamin Butler, with a locked knapsack labeled "B.F.B. 2,000,000," worships at the shrine. President Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Frémont, and other Northern leaders are present. A statue of John Brown holding a pike stands on a pedestal as "St. Ossawatomie."; Reprinted in the 1880s from original plates created by Volck in the 1860s. Set titled Confederate War Etchings and published by Porter & Coates. This is plate 1.; Adalbert Johann Volck originally published this print under the pseudonym V. Blada.
