Rome; Lamps; Clay (unfired); Slip

Notes:

Pale buff micaceous clay with red slip on top. Broad rounded nozzle. Rim divides at base of nozzle and ends in quasi-volutes. Twelve heads in relief on rim, six on either side. Rim separated from discus by pear-shaped grooved band. Chi-Rho mongram on discus. Central filling hole, air hole at base of nozzle and small hole broken on right side. Ring handle rises from top opposite nozzle and at right angles to axis of lamp. Grooves which set off rim on either side are carried across top of handle. Base set off by pear-shaped groove.
