- Sepia-toned photo of three employees of the Merchants Credit Bureau--Estelle Koehler, Judie Strandburg, and Marion Maus, as indicated by a handwritten notes on both the recto and verso--kneeling in winter coats of the roof of the Merchants Building, on the east corner of Grand River Avenue and Broadway Avenue. Snow has accumulated on the roof's surfaces. The caption, "Coldest in Six Years," has been handwritten at the bottom of the recto. "1923," is handwritten on the verso. The remnants of stripes used to affix the photo in an album are on the corners.

Two American flags are visible hanging from the building's façade; signage painted on the east elevation of the building reads, "Hudson's Grows with Detroit." Automobiles and a horse carriage are all visible parked adjacent to the store; pedestrians are visible on the sidewalk and crossing the street. Himelhoch's retailer neighbors Hudson's to the west, as well as the Weil Furniture Company. The date and store name are printed on the bottom of the recto, "Hudson's; May - 18 - 15." Also, hand-written on the verso, "Hudson's in 1915 - Woodward and Grand River."

The photograph depicts the steel frame construction of a new component of The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. The F. Rolshoven Co., is visible on the corner, and Hudson's is visible, adjacent on Gratiot. Automobiles are parked along the curb, and are also moving along the thoroughfare. Streetcars and horse carriages are also visible. Pedestrians populate the sidewalk, and the intersections. The subject, date, and photographic sequence numbers are printed on the bottom of the recto, "Hudson's; August 15 - 14; No. - 13.; 7882." Also, the photographer's name, and geographic location are stamped on the verso, "Charles Ruel Messinger, Commercial Photographer, 1646 Woodward Ave. Detroit, Mich. - Black and white photograph taken in the main dining room of the Russell House. Three archways extend into small alcoves that contain a single dining table. A wooden railing, topped with a potted plant, extends across the left half of the opening beneath each arch. The opening beside each railing is flanked by a leather upholstered chair on the right, and a small table holding a basin on the left. A wooden column with an octagonal base supports a ceiling beam that extends out from between the two arches nearest to the camera. China is displayed along the tops of the molding around the room. The recto is signed with the initials, "F.S." "Russell House," is handwritten on the verso.
