- One certificate. The certificate is handwritten in black ink on heavy paper and was issued as a resolution by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the City of Detroit to commemorate the untimely death of "Robert W. Nash, Steersman of Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, who had been a valued member of this Department since March 8th 1880, died on Sunday Sept. 17th 1882." The certificate is dated "Sept. 18th 1882" and is signed at the bottom by "James E. Tryon, Secretary. R. W. Gillett, Jerome Croul, B. Vernor, Commissioners."

- Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait photograph of Detroit Fire Commissioner Benjamin Vernor. Handwriting on the verso indicates "ex-commissioner, Benjamin Vernor." This photograph is one of a series of eight photos of former Detroit Fire Department Commissioners. The decorative engraved logo of the photographer (Randall) has been torn off of the verso.

- City of Detroit, Fire Commission appointment certificate, printed by the Calvert Lithograph Company, and issued to Benjamin Vernor, on April 1, 1874, for the term ending April 1878. The certificate contains the signatures of Controller Emery J. Garfield, and Mayor Alexander Lewis, a metallic gold embossed seal of the City of Detroit, engraved imagery from the seal, affixed sepia-toned head-and-shoulder portrait photographs of the fire commissioners Peter Henkel (top left), Jerome Croul (bottom left), Joseph Godfrey (top right), and Benjamin Vernor (bottom right). The certificate is mounted on linen.
