- Description:
- Sepia-toned photo of the launch of the U.S. Shipping Board cargo freighter CRAWL KEYS at Great Lakes Engineering Works, taken from across the slip its being side launched into, off of its port bow. A banner, blurred by the motion of the launch, is hung at midship on the vessel's port side; its discernible portion reads, "A World's Record, This Ship Launched [...]," referring to the freighter's record setting 29 day construction period. A crowd has gathered in the background at the end of the slip, beneath a building with a large "Great Lakes Engineering Works" sign on its roof. "7-29-1918," is printed near the bottom center of the image. The photo is mounted on beige cardboard with a decorative brown border. "Fred Mogk, Photographer, 23 Henry St. River Rouge - Michigan," is stamped on the verso.
