- Color postcard depicting an elevated view along Central Avenue on Belle Isle at night. The street is crowded with pedestrians and horse-drawn vehicles. In the foreground is a round flowerbed. Printed on verso: Central Avenue, Belle Isle, Detroit, Mich. Belle Isle Park contains about 700 acres and has cost Detroit including bridge leading to it about $2,000,000. It has beautiful lawns and Floral displays, also many miles of driveways and canals. It has a Zoo, Horticultural Building and Aquarium. Refreshments are served at both Casino and Pavillion. It was bought from the Chippewa and Ottawa Indians for eight Barrels of rum, three rolls of tobacco, six pounds of vermillion and a belt of wampum, by Lieutenant Mc Dougall in 1769. In 1879, 110 years afterward it was sold to Detroit for $200,000. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Oct 31, 1917.

Canoeing is the leading sport at Belle Isle, Detroit's largest play-ground. Its 702 acres are threaded by many miles of canals and lakes, affording an ideal spot in which the light little craft cruise about by thousands. Its center piece is a log cabin, which is an exact reproduction of the home in which Senator Palmer resided when Detroit was little more than a trading post. Printed on verso: Woodward Avenue enjoys the unusual distinction of being both Detroit's leading business and residence street. It is named in honor of Judge Woodward, one of Detroit's foremost citizens in the pioneer days, and stretches approximately north and south. The postcard shows a color photographic image of canoeists who are afloat on one the Belle Isle canals and are listening to a band concert. Other audience members are seated along the canal banks. Musicians can be seen in the distance beneath the canopy that is located on a bridge over the canal. Printed text on the verso shows "Band Concert, Belle Isle, Detroit, Mich. One of the attractive features are the live concerts given at the city's expense during the summer months. Thousands of people attend these concerts and during the progress, the canals are covered with many canoes."
