- On May 13, 1983 100 firefighters from the surrounding area battled an afternoon fire at the Ford Motor Company's Saline Instrument and Plastic Plant on Michigan Avenue. 500 nearby residents were evacuated from their homes due to the potential danger of toxic fumes from burning plastic. The fire began in a pile of plastic scraps, according to an Ann Arbor News article.
