Included is an infant in a cradle, a girl holding a doll, a young woman holding a rose, a woman wearing a wedding dress, a mother and infant, a middle aged woman wearing a cape, an older woman holding scales and a set of keys, an older woman holding a kerchief and looking away from the viewer, an elderly woman holding a cane, another elderly woman hunched over holding a cane, and a last elderly woman sitting in a chair knitting. Below the steps is a vignette showing three figures standing over a new gravesite as a hearse arrives. Below each woman is a line of corresponding verse.

Schlagal wrote to his wife Margery while serving in the United States Army during World War II. Schlagal discussed his experiences in India and on the island of Tinian, and he often illustrated his letters with ink sketches and watercolor paintings.

From a collection of letters written to the Brownell family in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Louisiana, New York City, Cuba, and France. The largest part of the collection are letters to Charles Brownell and his wife Henrietta [Nettie] from Charles' mother [Mummy] and his three brothers, Edward [Ned], Henry, and Clarence, often written with notes added and sent on as a "round robin" correspondence which ended with Charles.

- Marcia [Abbot] ALS to [Charles Abbot], December 20, [18]98. s.l., page 3. From a collection of letters written to Charles Abbot from his family in Warren, Rhode Island. The majority of the letters are from his wife Marcia, but letters from his parents and friends are also part of the collection. The letters primarily describe the lives of Marcia and others living in Warren. What is best documented in this collection is the development and education of the Abbots' daughter Grace. Marcia writes about her involvement as a parent and Grace's activities, and sends her daughter's drawings or short notes with many of the letters. Abbot's service and the news about the United States Army are occasionally mentioned.
