- 121-125 Monroe. F.W. Woolworth came here in 1911, built a new store in 1939 which replaced the building with the clock tower at the corner of Monroe and Pearl. - 832 Grandville Avenue SW was the site of Joldersma Funeral Home beginning in 1887. Jacob Joldersma immigrated from the Netherlands as a child. Later he and his two brothers founded the furniture and undertaking business on Grandville with a second location at 823 Leonard Street NW. Jacob's son, Alfred, was the second generation to own the business. The building shown here was built in 1930 and was most recently the Bethel Assembly of God church.

The company distributed Kraft cheese, Kraft dressing products and Parkay margarine. The building was taken over one year later by Gordon Food Service. Sitting in front of the building was the Walter Finger service station selling City Service products. The site is currently part of the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus.

- The Hotel Browning was built in 1917 by Alvah Brown. It had 250 rooms and shops on the street level. It also had a four-lane bowling alley and a billiard room. The Ferguson-Droste-Ferguson Hospital bought the building in 1938, and continued for some time to operate some of the space as a hotel. The building is located at 72-80 Sheldon Ave SE in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Photo circa 1938.

Edsko Hekman was a baker in the Netherlands before immigrating to Grand Rapids and taking up the trade here, eventually passing the business to his sons. He and his sons also founded the Hekman Furniture Company.

- Fox Deluxe Brewing Co., at 26 Michigan St. NW in the Belknap/Lookout neighborhood. It was located on the south side of Michigan Hill, just down from Immanuel Lutheran Church, at the corner of Ionia Ave. The building was originally built in 1892 for the Grand Rapids Brewing Co., but went vacant during Prohibition. GR Brewing reopened for a few years when Prohibition was repealed. The Michigan Brewing Co. operated the plant from 1935 until 1940, when Fox Brewing Co. took over until 1951. In 1964 the old brewery was torn down to make way for the State office building, which still occupies the site.
