- One copy of "The Detroit Daliy Post" newspaper for "Saturday Morning, June 27, 1874." It consists of a single large sheet of paper that has been folded in half in order to create four pages of black printed text. Short articles cover international, national, and local news as well as real estate, vessel passages, wholesale market prices, death notices, legal notices, weather, and advertisements. Several small engraved drawings are included among the advertisements. This newspaper was contained in the lead box time capsule that was removed from the Old City Hall on May 25, 1961.

- One sheet, containing pages 151-154 of the October 23, 1886 edition of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. Pages 152-153 features a composite of illustrations titled "Michigan. - Views In and About the City of Detroit and the City of Windsor, Canada." from sketches by C. Upham. The views featured include as follows: View of Detroit from Windsor ; "Ole Bone" Man ; City Hall ; Water Works and Stand Pipe ; Griswold Street ; Market House ; Grand Circus Park ; Custom House at Windsor Detecting a Smuggler ; View of Windsor ; Jars with Spawn Undergoing the Hatching Process ; Filling the Jars with Spawn ; White Fish Hatchery ; Interior of the Hatchery.

- One sheet, containing pages 361 and 362, from the July 27, 1878 supplement to Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. The sheet contains an article, "The City of the Straits: Rambles About a Thrifty Western Metropolis," containing information about the City of Detroit, including features about the May-Flower Tobacco Works, Pingree & Smith, Walker, McGraw & Co., and D.M. Ferry & Co. Also featured, on page 362, are several etchings of various Detroit scenes, including Jefferson Avenue, The Opera House, a street drinking fountain, and the Perry cannon in front of the city hall. Other etchings, on page 361, include an etching of the steamer "'Far West' patrolling the Tongue River in search of hostile Indians," the Colonel Edward Richardson, and P.T. Barnum's special advertising coach.

- One sheet, mounted on paper, from the Michigan Volksblatt from 1903, featuring a halftone print of "The Pasadena," an apartment building located at 2170 East Jefferson Avenue, with a view to the southwest. The text on the upper and lower portions of the image describe some of the characteristics of the Pasadena in German. The building itself is topped with a drawn on flag reading "Pasadena." Several horse drawn carriages, automobiles, and a trolley car can be seen along Jefferson Avenue and Dubois Street. The Detroit River and the Canadian shore are visible in the background. Text on the bottom of the image reads "Hurd-Wheeler Co. Detroit."

- One sheet, mounted on paper, from the Michigan Volksblatt from 1903, featuring a halftone print of the Union Trust Building, which was located on the northeast corner of Griswold and Congress Streets. The text indicating the name of the building and the accompanying caption is written in German. Several horse drawn carriages are visible on Griswold. A sign for President William McKinley can be seen above the doorway of the building on the right side of the image.

- One open page of a newspaper showing a picture collage entitled "Views In The City of Detroit." The open page shows engraved drawings that are printed in black ink on slightly yellowed newspaper. The drawings are printed across two pages of the September 9, 1878, issue of "The Daily Graphic" newspaper of New York. The eighteen drawings show various downtown streets, businesses, churches, public buildings, and the Detroit Riverfront. A numbered index along the bottom of the page identifies all of the drawings.

- One sheet, mounted on paper, from the Michigan Volksblatt from 1903, featuring a halftone print of the "Majestic - Gebaude (Das herz von Detroit.)," or the "Majestic Building (the heart of Detroit.)." The image shows the Majestic Building with a view to the southeast. The building is topped with a drawn on flag reading "Majestic." Many pedestrians can be seen walking along the sidewalks and roads, which include Woodward Avenue to the right and Michigan Avenue to the left. Also visible are trolley cars marked with destinations such as "Trumbull" and "Third." Signs visible on store fronts include "Sparling's" and "Siegel's."
