- Color postcard depicting carriages on a road on Belle Isle, with several people along the sides and steamships on the Detroit River in the background. Printed on verso: Along the Shore, Belle Isle, Detroit's principal recreation spot. The island is located in the Detroit river near lake St. Clair, and it connected with the city by a bridge 8 feet less than half a mile in length. It comprises 702 acres, is over two miles long and boasts over thirty miles of fine macadam roadway which completely circles and frequently intersects it. A fine zoo, aquarium, horticultural building, swimming and skating pavilions, casino and boat livery are in connection. The City has expended over $1,500,000 on it since its purchase in 1879. Printed on verso: Detroit Yacht Club, Belle Isle. - This handsome home of the club was built in 1905 to replace their former home, destroyed by fire. It cost $20,000. The club is one of the largest on the great lakes, features sailing and maintains a fleet of 20 one-design cat-boats in which the members sail weekly in regattas. Handwritten message on recto reads, "Aboard Str. "City of Mackinac" 8/8 06. Left Detroit at 9:30 A.M. for the Soo & will arrive tomorrow night. - Color postcard depicting a parked bus in front of the Aquarium and Conservatory on Belle Isle. Printed on verso: the Aquarium and Horticultural Buildings on Belle Isle are among the most popular attraction on the island. In the Aquarium will be found all kinds of fresh wand salt water fish. The Commission brings the water direct from the ocean for the latter. In the Horticultural building are domestic and tropical plants and shrubbery, making it a veritable paradise.
