- Michael Stamm, professor of History at Michigan State University, delivers a talk entitled, "From the forest to the newsroom: the hidden labor of the newspaper business." Stamm discusses research from his book "Dead tree media: manufacturing the newspaper in twentieth-century North America" and describes the evolving conversations about newspaper production. He also talks about the disconnect between consumers and newspaper production and the forgotten lumberjack labor which fuels the industry. He answers questions from the audience. The event is convened by John P. Beck professor of Human Resources and Labor Relations at MSU.

Trump says that he is renaming the agreement the "United States-Mexico Trade Agreement" because "NAFTA carries a lot of bad connotations. - President Obama holds a press conference with President Nieto of Mexio and Prime Minister Harper of Canada. Obama, Nieto and Harper speak to the press following their trilateral North American Leaders Summit meeting. Nieto introduces Obama and speaks on preserving the monarch butterfly, reinforcement of citizen security, and economic relationships of the North American countries, summarizing the discussions held at the Summit meeting. Obama speaks about expanding the North American trade market, developing educational relations, and critiques the Venezuelan and Ukrainian governments. Harper thanks Nieto for the hospitality of Mexico, and discusses NAFTA, the government of Ukraine, and goes on to speak about hosting the Summit meeting next year. Rothstein compares three General Motors auto plants around the world while talking about the changing nature of jobs and the impact on work in the auto industry in the face of a globalization of the manufacturing economy. He describes good auto industry jobs which provide access to the middle class, but says that these jobs are getting steadily worse. He calls for an international labor standards structure to protect workers. A question and answer session concludes the session. Rothstein is introduced by Michigan State University Professor John P. Beck.
