- George Schippers was a driver for the early Greyhound Bus line between Grand Haven and Muskegon. He is joined in this interview by Jack Rollenhagen, who recalls many details about the local Interurban rail system. They discuss the Muskegon Streetcar Riot, which occurred on the night of August 6, 1919 and was in response to an increase in fare from six to seven cents by the Muskegon Traction and Lighting Company, which owned and operated the cars. Several thousand people became involved, and a total of sixteen streetcars were destroyed. The car barns where the streetcars were stored were also destroyed by the rioters. Other topics discussed by Schippers and Rollenhagen include the World's Fair, the locations of former factories, early trucking on US- 31, the first paved road in Grand Haven, and recollections of local Native Americans.

- President Obama announces the departure of Tom Donilon as National Security Advisor and says he is appointing Susan Rice, currently the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, to the position effective in July. Obama also announces the appointment of Samantha Power as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, pending Senate confirmation. Obama praises the work of Donilon, and says he expects Rice to continue her record of stellar service. Of Power Obama says her vast experience in Bosnia and her academic accomplishments make her a perfect person to represent the country in the U. N. Donilon jokes about finally seeing the sun. Rice thanks family and friends for their support and says she looks forward to the role. Power recalls coming to America as a nine-year-old Irish immigrant and thanks the President for the appointment.

- Jean-Philip Mathieu, Professor of History at the University of Quebec, delivers a talk entitled, "Labour Struggle in the United States and Canada, 1876 - 1878: Reflections on Connected Histories." Mathieu posits that Canadian and U.S. labor history is frequently interrelated and uses a period of rail worker labor action to demonstrate his thesis. He describes the economic context of the time, the extent of worker literacy, and the power of the unions, the interconnectedness of the rail system and the workers, and how the respective governments reacted. Mathieu suggests that the American and Canadian workers had more in common with each other than with their respective employers and shared a common historical trajectory that transcended national boundaries. A question and answer session concludes the presentation. Part of Michigan State University Libraries' Colloquia Series and the Our Daily Work/Our Daily Lives Brown Bag series, cosponsored by the MSU School of Human Resources and Labor Relations, the MSU Museum, and the MSU Canadian Studies Center. Obama praises the efforts of resigning Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in spearheading the development and implementation of healthcare.gov and in modernizing and streamlining the United States health care system. Sebelius asserts that her department is important in helping people in their every day lives and in paving the way toward new ways to keep people healthy. Burwell thanks her office and praises their efforts to improve the government's fiscal policy and organization. She outlines her goals as Secretary of Health and Human Survices and says she looks forward to helping the American people through her new office.

- Incumbent Michigan Governor G. Mennen "Soapy" Williams gives a campaign speech denouncing his Republican opponent, former Michigan Governor Harry Kelly, for running a dirty campaign. Williams argues that informed voters are crucial to a democracy and claims that Kelly has refused to articulate any platform and has spent his time calling Williams a communist and a socialist. Williams outlines his own positions, including decent treatment of elderly citizens, labor laws which are fair to employers and employees, an immediate road building program, and above all a "government which sees and meets the needs of all its people." He challenges Kelly to articulate what he stands for. Williams is introduced by Robert Scott, the Secretary/Treasurer for the Michigan Federation of Labor AFL, who also announces the AFL endorsement for Williams.
