- Description:
- This collection contains audio cassette recordings of the City of Lansing's Board of Ethics Committee, primarily during meetings concerning the controversial early retirement plan that was put in place in 1992 during the leadership of Mayor Terry McKane. The plan allowed 144 city employees the option of an early retirement with an enhanced pension, which the mayor and others involved in the plan took advantage of. The city was then sued by the United Auto Workers and other parties. This is not a comprehensive set of recordings; the Lansing State Journal reported on destruction of some tapes during the course of the meetings on the retirement plan. The City Clerk's office maintains textual transcripts of the meetings.
