- Description:
- This is a woman's two piece wool twill suit in dark taupe wool with black silk braid. The jacket has long, straight sleeves, rounded collar, is hip length with a nipped-in waist. It is decorated with a swirling loop and paisley pattern of braid at the center front and jacket hemline. Covered buttons are at its center, and a hook and eye closure continue into the braid pattern at the front points of the jacket. The jacket is lined in crepe, and is labeled at the back of the neck B. Siegel. This unlined skirt is made of dark taupe wool twill. The A-line skirt is mid-calf length with 1 1/2 " waistband . There is a zipper and button closure at the side. It is labeled B. Siegel. The ensemble was purchased by the donor at Siegel's in 1949. It was donated to the B. Siegel Company for its 100th Anniversary celebration.

- This woman's suit has a black velvet jacket that has a collar, cuffs, and pocket flaps that are ecru wool with black and tan houndstooth check. The jacket has slits on its sides and in its back, and weights are on the side flaps. The jacket has an ecru satin lining. The skirt has a slight gored line in a wool fabric of ecru and black checks that match the collar and cuffs of the jacket. A black velvet underskirt hangs about 6" below the wool. Belonged to the donor: Marie Freud (Mrs. Joseph Siegel) who was born in Detroit in 1893, and married in Detroit in 1914. Label: B. Siegel Co.

- This deep red wool woman's suit has two pieces. The single-breasted jacket has five covered buttons down the front and a small shawl collar. The long, straight sleeves have turned-back cuffs. Draped peplum on the back and sides is caught up with self-cords tipped in brass. The collar is also caught up with brass tipped cords. The skirt of below-knee length is a slightly flared "A" line. - This morning suit belonged to Willis C. Ward. He likely used it for a wedding or other special occasion. It is exquisitely made and looks to have been rarely used.Willis C. Ward was born in 1861 to one of Michigan's wealthest families of the 19th century. His father David Ward, made his fortune in lumber and acquired and sold timbered land throughout the United States.

- Woman's navy and bright green satin suit. The jacket resembles a bolero over a blouse, and has a deep V-neck with a narrow collar. It also has three quarter length sleeves and is decorated with heavy embroidery. The skirt is "hobble" style. Label: J. Hock, Detroit.

- Woman's suit in a fine brown, pink, blue, white, and black wool tweed. The fitted jacket has long sleeves, a round, lapel collar, padded shoulders, and self buttons. It is lined with mauve crepe. The plain straight skirt has a zide zipper. Labels: Kay Cooley, Statler Hotel, Detroit, Birmingham, Michigan, and An Amy Linker Original, imported fabric.

- Woman's two piece suit of black taffeta and fine black wool. Skirt has graduated petals of black wool with three covered buttons over a very full, waltz length taffeta skirt. There is a side zipper.. The jacket is single breasted, with self-covered buttons. It has a rolled collar and shoulder pads. Long, tight sleeves with cuffs. Flares over hips. Label:(at neckline) "Irene"

- Woman's gray-green gabardine suit having a long-sleeve collarless jacket with padded shoulders, and an inset yoke with diagonal button down tabs on either side. It has set-in front pockets with matching diagonal button-down flaps. The jacet ends past the hips and is lined with pale purple crepe. The straight skirt has a 1 3/8" waistband with a side zipper and hooks. The waistband measures approximately 26." Labels: Adrian in British Samek Material, and The J.L. Hudson Co., Detroit.

- Woman's two piece beige shantung suit. The collarless cropped jacket has padded shoulders. Its long straight sleeves continue across the shoulders and bodice in a triangular shape. The jacket has insets of brown and gold raw silk at the chest, top of the front closing, and on the sleeves. The unlined, gored, A-line shirt has a high 3" wide waistband with a hook and eye closure. Side zipper. Raw silk brown and gold insets at the center front of the skirt, with two multi-color tabs at the waistband. Label: Adrian Original.

- According to the donor, this suit was worn by Richard Royhans Johnson for his first communion, most likely at Visitation Church in Highland Park, Michigan (Johnson was born in Marion, Indiana in the spring of 1941 or 1942). It is a nice example of a shorts suit for a boy moving up from a knicker suit.
