- When the prison camp at Ruhleben experienced heavy rains, the pond in the infield of the race track increased greatly in size and patrons of the Pondside Stores had to use wooden planks to make their purchases. Entrepreneurs could turn a profit even in prison camps, especially if they excelled in a trade.

- The British internees at Ruhleben administed internal affairs inside of the facility. These men served as policemen to provide security inside the prison camp. The British were strongly opposed to German guards patrolling inside the camp.

- The Ruhleben Horticultural Society constructed a greehouse on the grounds of the prison camp at Ruhleben so its members could continue to cultivate a wide range of flowers during the winter months.

- A lovely "actress" is flanked by Oriental harem guard chorus in this theatrical pantomine produced in the theater at Ruhleben. Prisoners could produce elaborate shows in the facility for the benefit of the internees.

- British internees line up with their dinner pails waiting for their lunch rations at the camp kitchen in Ruhleben. A German guard stands by the door near an internee who is already eating his soup. Several of the prisoners appear to be in good human, including the man in the center of the photo wearing his soup bowl as a helmet.
