- Black and white postcard depicting the Belle Isle Bridge on Fire, with several firefighters aboard a fire tug using hoses to spray the flames. A dock which extends underneath the bridge is also caught in the fire. The center of the bridge has completely burned. - Invitation to the Independence Ball held July 4, 1831 at Woodworth's Hotel, addressed to Mary Catherine Brevoort, and dated July 1, 1831. "Mrs. Brevoort" is handwritten beneath a lithographic print of an eagle holding an "e pluribus unum," banner in its beak. "Mrs. Brevoort is again handwritten on the verso, so that her name would be displayed on top when the sheet was folded in thirds. A.S. Porter, J. Winder, I.S. Rowland, and M.F. Abbott are listed as the hotel's managers.

- Letter, with envelope, from William Duncan, chief engineer to Joseph Campau, dated April 9, 1851, inviting him to attend the fire department's annual inspection in front of Firemen's hall. Campau's address is handwritten on the envelope in French. Letter reads: "Sir, In behalf of our Fire Department I would respectfully tender you an invitation to be present at their annual inspection which takes place this afternoon at half past two o clock in front of the Firemen's Hall the Common Council and those of our citizens who intend to be present will meet in the Bidille[?] House trusting we shall have the honor of your presence. I remain Respectfully Yours William Duncan Chief Engineer

- Mounted sepia-toned photographic print showing fire tug JAMES BATTLE underway with four crewmembers visible on deck. Handwritten on verso, " fireboat "James Battle" launched at Det. shipbuilding yards in Wyandotte on Oct. 13 1900, went into service at foot of fifth St. on Jan. 15 1901, length 122 ft., beam 25 ft., draft 11 ft., speed 14 m.p.h. in 1936, was converted to diesel engine was decommisioned Feb. 1940 was sold to Sincennes-McNaughton firm of Montreal Canada, was streamlined into a tugboat and was still in service in 1972."

- Mounted black and white photograph taken of the ruins of Capitol High School following its fire on January 27, 1893, as viewed from an elevated positioned across Griswold Street to the southwest. Icicles hang from the building's facade and surrounding utility lines, and rubble has settled around its base. A ladder apparatus, and a fire engine are on Griswold, near the northeastern end of the building. Several figures dot the streets. The sign for the Griswold Street Theatre is visible on the right edge of the frame. A moonlight tower is visible down State Street on the left edge of the frame. The photo is mounted on a cardboard backing, with the following handwritten on the verso: Jan 27, 1893 Detroit Central High School Fire 18 Engine Companies in the Dept.
