- British and French prisoners of war draw their daily bread rations from a cart under the watchful eyes of German Landsturm guards. The British troops, used to white bread, considered the German "Kriegsbrot" to be a poor substitution, especially as the war continued and substitute ingredients were added to replace flour supplies.

- Prisoners of war at Worms sit in a classroom reviewing a math lesson. The instructor is a prisoners as well and the students work out problems on small chalkboards at their benches. The original caption for this picture indicated that this was a school for Russian prisoners and a map of European Russia is mounted on the wall in the back of the classroom. The YMCA provided educational materials for prisoners so they could continue their educations during their time in prison.

- Russian prisoners prepare to butcher a recently slaughtered hog in the prison compound at Danzig. Note the white identification badges on the breast pockets of the prisoners. The pig provided the protein for the POW's for the next meal.

- British prisoners of war on a labor detachment march along a snowy road in support of a supply train. One POW is pulling a cart filled with boxes, which may have been parcels for the prisoners. The heavily laden wagon in front is also pulled by several prisoners. POW's often had to march to the railroad depot to load wagons with supplies and parcels for the prison camp.

- A large group of Polish civilians and legionnaires pose for a photograph in the prison compound at Havelberg. From the German perspective, these men constituted a threat to the new Polish Regency under Austro-German control because they refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the new regime in Warsaw in 1916.

- The prison camp orchestra, composed of British, French, and Russian musicians, pose for a group photograph with their musical instruments at the prison camp at Goettingen. The orchestra performed at the dedication of the new YMCA hall in 1915.

- A group of British and French prisoners pose for a photograph at a prisoner collection center in Courtrai, Belgium. The photograph included Lt. Pat O'Brien, an American who served as a pilot with the Royal Flying Corps, who was shot down behind enemy lines (he is standing in the center of the photograph behind the seated German guard). O'Brien paid a German guard a Mark for the photograph.

- This is a view of the interior of the grain storage facility at Milejgany in Lithuania where the Germans imprisoned more than 450 French hostages in January 1918.

- Drawing of the interior of an internees' room at the Ruhleben prison camp. Three internees lived in a horse box inside of the stables of the race track. Internees were free to acquire property to improve their standard of living. British civilians made the best with the existing horse stables where they were assigned for living quarters.

- French prisoners enter the washroom in the enlisted prisoners' camp at Wuerzburg for their morning wash. In many camps, POWs had to wash outdoors despite the weather.
