A livery man in a long coat and top hat holds the horse by the bit. A steep grass-covered road verge leading to the sidewalk is visible along the right side of the street. Large buildings are visible, albeit out of focus on the opposite side of the street. The mat board is beige with a darker region which immediately frames the image. "Arthur & Philbric, Detroit" is printed in this border.
