- Black and white photograph of an elderly man walking on the pier with a bucket in hand. He appears to carefully walking across the ledge along the channel where the Kalamazoo River meets Lake Michigan. The handwriting on the back of the picture reads "Fisherman on pier" although the writing is faint. Additionally, underneath the handwriting there is a stamp which reads: "Saugatuck-Douglas Chamber of Commerce, Saugatuck, Michigan." In the bottom left-hand side there is a stamp which reads: "Joe Armstrong, Allegen, Michigan."

A pay phone can also be seen outside the building. The ground if covered in snow and both individuals are wearing winter coats.

- Correspondence from John Bennitt to his wife Charlotte, September 10, 1862. During this time, Bennitt enlists as an assistant surgeon in the 19th Michigan Infantry. Bennitt_s regiment moves from Dowagiac, Michigan to Cincinnati, where it joins General Granger_s Army of Kentucky at Covington. Bennitt describes their march to Lexington and Nicholasville. During this time in Kentucky, Bennitt is placed in charge of the divisional hospital. Their Centreville home is lost through forclosure and his family moves to Three Rivers, Michigan to stay with friends. This group of letters is transcribed and footnoted in Chapter 2 of I Hope to Do My Country Service.

- Correspondence from surgeon John Bennitt of Centreville, Michigan to his wife Charlotte, December 22 and 23, 1863. During this time, Bennitt_s regiment is ordered to McMinnville, Tennessee, to garrison the town on a Confederate communications route. Bennitt tours the Stones River battlefield and reports on the conditions of the people of Tennessee, and the formation of U.S. Colored Infantry regiments. This group of letters is transcribed and footnoted in Chapter 5 of I Hope to Do My Country Service. Michigan Tennessee
