Most of the letters are addressed to Jack Osgood, 500 Butterfield Drive, East Lansing, Michigan, and some are addressed to Mrs. Wayland Osgood at the same address. One correspondent, Oakley D. Thornton, refers to flying model airplanes with Jack Osgood. Most correspondents seem to be buddies from high school and write from various military bases around the U.S. Topics include training, KP duty, specific airplanes, and several letters give advice on passing a psychological exam.

It is a biplane, two-seated open cockpit ship, known as the Stearman trainer, made by the Boering Aircraft Company, and equipped with a 225 horsepower engine.
