- David Murley reminisces about his former professor C. Patrick "Lash" Larrowe, Michigan State University professor of economics. Murley talks about working as Larrowe's teaching assistant, their political differences, Larrowe's eccentricities, and Larrowe's involvement in controversies surrounding the Vietnam war, government surveillance, race relations, and MSU's ROTC program. Murley also talks about Larrowe's war experiences on Okinawa during WWII, his personal life, his association with Students for a Democratic Society, and Larrowe's lawsuit against MSU for forcing him into retirement. Murley is interviewed by John Revitte, MSU professor emeritus of Labor and Industrial Relations.

- Setsuko Thurlow describes working in a military office as a high school student at the time of the Hiroshima bombing. She talks about surviving and escaping and helping many refuges. She also explains how she came to Canada with her Canadian husband and has worked tirelessly to promote disarmament education. She says that she was ultimately awarded "The Order of Canada" for her persistent advocacy for non-nuclear peace in both Japan and Canada.

- Robert D. Vassen, retired Associate Director of the English Language Center at Michigan State University is interviewed by John Metzler, African Studies Center Outreach Coordinator and Peter Limb, Michigan State University Librarian and Africana Bibliographer. Vassen discusses growing up in South Africa during the late 1940's and 1950's as an Indian and living in the Indian community of Fordsburg, near Johannesburg. Vassen says he was active in the Transvaal Indian Youth Congress and in 1962, joined the illegal military wing of the African National Congress (ANC). Forced into exile in London in 1964, Vassen says he continued to be an active member of the ANC and edited "Letters From Robben Island: a selection of Ahmed Kathrada's prison correspondence, 1964-1989."

- Ken Germanson, Allied Industrial Workers international union staff member, AIW newspaper editor, and president of the Wisconsin Labor History Society (WLHS), talks with Michigan State University Labor and Industrial Relations Professor Emeritus John Revitte via telephone. Germanson and Revitte talk about their long association, projects they have collaborated on, and their careers. Germanson compares the AIW with the United Auto Workers in terms of how they handled grievances and race relations, the makeup of AIW membership, its political leanings, and the history of the AIW as it navigated the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Gernamson describes steps to racially integrate the AIW, and explains how the union survived allegations of widespread corruption. Germanson says that the AIW was small and depended on the AFL and schools like MSU to educate members. Part 1 of 7.
