Soldiers and Sailors Monument built in 1881 at a cost of $70,000. The red building at right is the Hammond Building. The electric sign on top of building is one of the finest in the west and when in action gives a description of the famous Chariot Race of Ben Hur. This hotel was opened to the public in October, 1907, and is strictly fireproof. It is a marvel of convenience, the underground portion being most important for the comfort of the guests. Over five million pounds of steel were used in its construction. Handwritten message on verso, postmarked Jul 20, 1912.
