Wolpe is interviewed by Dr. David Wiley, Director of the MSU African Studies Center. Wolpe describes how he became interested in Africa as a graduate student at Boston University and coming to Western Michigan University in 1967 to teach African studies. He also talks about his rise in politics and his involvement, as a Michigan legislator and U.S. Representative, in African issues at a time of significant change on the continent. He discusses his anti-apartheid efforts in South Africa and at Michigan State University and his more recent experiences as part of the Clinton administration and his work at Smithsonian.
