- Detroit native Jim Daniels, Professor of English and Creative Writing at Carnegie-Mellon University, reads from his latest book of short stories "Trigger man: more tales from the Motor City". He shows and discusses his new film "Mr. Pleasant". Daniels explains his motivation for making the film, finding a location, using his students as actors, and the collaboration required in film making, which makes it so different from the isolation of writing. Daniels is introduced by Professor John P. Beck for the Michigan State University Libraries' Michigan Writers Series. Includes a brief promotion of the series by MSU librarian Michael Rodriguez.

- President Obama talks about the Affordable Care Act, often derisively referred to as "Obamacare." Obama recounts the history of the legislation and talks about the October 1st implementation date for the insurance exchanges. He describes features that have already been implemented like preventive care, children being able to stay on parent's plans until age 26, lower costs, eliminating charges based on gender, and requiring companies to cover pre-existing conditions. Obama explains how pooling risk keeps premiums low and gives evidence of companies already lowering their rates in the new, competitive, and transparent system. He takes on critics of the ACA refuting their points and predicts that when it is successful current opponents will not only embrace it but declare they were actually in favor of it. - President Barack Obama announces a proposed rule change to the Affordable Care Act which would allow affected Americans to keep canceled health insurance policies for another year as companies and consumers adjust to the new demands of the ACA. - In his monthly radio program Memories of the Past, Doug Tjapkes interviews Grand Haven resident John VanSchelven about his early memories of the area. In this program, John talks about the freight house at the foot of Washington Street and the men who worked there. He talks about the difference between fishing today and the industry in the early 1900s. He goes on to recall the changes along the waterfront and at the foot of Dewey Hill. John gives a detailed history of The Barn, a popular dance hall and roller rink. He recalls that the area of Central Park was the site of the city's first cemetery, which was relocated south of town to create Lake Forest Cemetery. John remembers recreational activities in the area and gives details about sledding down Second Street hill.

- In this installment of "Defense report," Joe Butler and Tony Gaston report on American military operaions. Butler discusses a new initiative by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in conjunction with the Munitions Board and the Department of Commerce, to highlight procurement policies and other information about how companies can do business with the Armed Services. Gaston discusses "Operation Bulldozer," a push to create 60,000 new housing units on military bases around the United States which is expected to alleviate overcrowding for thousands of military families. Other stories include a look at a new electric clock which records the transmission time and station identification of outgoing communications, a new parachute design for high speed aircraft, and promotion examinations aimed at identifying candidates for non-commissioned officer positions.
