The Ottawa Grill is on the south side of West Shiawassee Street at North Washington Avenue; on the north side of West Shiawassee Street is the Eagles' Lodge, Aerie No. 1039, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Highlights include Schaefer Shoe Shop at 217, Michigan Theatre Arcade at 215, Small's Mens Shop at 211, the Foo Ying Cafe on the upper level at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2, Daniel's Jewelry Co. at 205 and Bosch jewelers at 201. - Johnnie's Grill at 224, Plaza Hotel at 222 1/2, Hofbrau Bar at 222, and Granse Dance Studio at 220 North Washington Avenue. City Planning Division staff trimmed the photo. - Cunningham's Drugs is at 100 South Washington Avenue. The Holly Lansing Grill is at 104, Baker's Shoe Store at 106. On West Michigan Avenue, the Prudden building entrance is 109, Archy's Lounge at 111, Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada and the House of Beef restaurant at 113 are followed by the Hotel Olds at 125 West Michigan Avenue. - Colwell's Drug Store, 321 North Washington Avenue; Yankee Stores, general merchandise, 323 North Washington Avenue; and Clique Cocktail Lounge, 325 North Washington Avenue. - Prominent in the image are the Senate Grill located in the Dodge Building, the Capitol Theatre, and the Gladmer Theatre. The Gladmer Theatre's feature, "Cast of Dr. Laurent," was released in 1957.

- East side. Daniels Jewelry at 205, Foo Ying Cafe at 207 1/2 - 209 1/2; Brooks mens store at 209, and Small's men's store at 211 South Washington Avenue. City Planning Division staff trimmed two photographs extensively. The images do not match perfectly; the pavement and automobiles are at varying heights in the two images. In this instance, an automobile in one photo was cut around and the affixed to the other photo, binding them together. City Planning Division staff annotation is present.
