- Description:
- Fred M. Shinnick built this country home on the north side of Walton Boulevard in 1926. It was located between Old Perch Road and Livernois Road, presently the site of the Grosse Pines subdivision. In 1932, the residence was converted into a private mental hospital called The Haven Sanitarium, which operated until 1968. In 1972, after years of neglect, the building burned down. - Frank Kremer stands inside a white tent, supervising his wife, Eliza Jane, and daughter, Lizzie, as they sort through strawberries and ready them to be transported for sale at Eastern Market in Detroit. - Description:
- The home of Howard K. McCotter, located across from the greenhouses at Oakview, near East Hamlin Road. The D.M. Ferry Company, later known as the Ferry-Morse Seed Company, expanded operations from Detroit to Avon Township in 1902. Oakview Farm comprised the area between South Rochester Road, East Hamlin Road, John R Road, and East Auburn Road. In 1912, the company increased the size of the farm northward, so that it reached to East Avon Road. Oakview was the site of the company’s trial grounds and stock seed breeding operations until 1944. - The Frank family residence on the northwest corner of John R and Auburn Roads. Pictured from left to right are Adeline Kettell Frank (1798-1886), her husband, Colonel John Chadsey Frank, Sr. (1799-1888), Arabella Frank (1841-1888) and Emily Frank (1857-1909). Arabella was the daughter of John C. Frank, Sr. and his first wife, Arabella Chipman Frank. Emily was the daughter of John C. Frank, Jr., the son of John C. Frank, Sr. and Arabella Chipman Frank.
