1. Women's navy blue wool coat from the late 1930s to mid 1940s

Description:
Woman's navy blue wool coat in a below-the-knee length. The princess line coat is single breasted, and its front seams end in pleats on the breast and skirt. The long narrow sleeves are decorated with a large triangular panel of drawn thread work. The coat has a false collar of drawn thread, wide padded shoulders, and six large buttons with a faint wood grain. It is lined with navy taffeta. Label: Hattie Carnegie, Inc.

2. Women's single breasted, gold suede coat from the 1960s

Description:
Woman's single breasted, gold suede coat with four gold-color, composition buttons, rounded collar, pockets at side seams, and overstitching in front. The straight sleeves have a vent at the cuff. The three-quarters length coat is lined in gold wool jersey. Worn by donor. Label: A Bonnie Cashin Design, Sills and Co.

3. Women's black wool and amber brown mink coat from the 1930s

Description:
Woman's black wool and amber brown mink coat. It has a wide mink collar which can be worn up or spread out. The cape is also edged with mink. There are three lines of tucks running diagonally across the coat and on the cape and cuffs. It has side buttons. Label: "An Original Design by Peggy Hoyt, N.Y." Dated 10/20/32.

4. Duster, about 1915

Description:
The material does not feel as if it is all wool--perhaps wool and cotton or wool and linen. Worn by Willis C. Ward, it is typical in the styling of men's driving dusters. The material, however, is uncommon, as most dusters were generally linen. Willis C. Ward was born in 1861 to one of Michigan's wealthest families of the 19th century. His father David Ward, made his fortune in lumber and acquired and sold timbered land throughout the United States.

5. Women's knee-length brown and black wool coat from the 1950s

Description:
Women's knee-length, knubby textured brown and black wool coat. The double breasted coat has a narrow collar, and a lapel of black wool. It is fitted over the chest, and flares out at the hips. The flare is increased by padding on the hips The sleeves stop a little short of the wrists. Graduated size buttons. The coat was purchased by the donor in 1955 or 1956 at Julie's Inc. for $350.00. Label: "William Popper, From a Design by Charles James."

6. Women's off-white, wool twill evening coat from the 1960s or 70s

Description:
Woman's off-white, wool twill evening coat. The ankle length garment has seam pockets, and is single breasted with four bound button closings, mandarin collar, and raglan sleeves. The lower half of coat has applied bright red and black exagerated scallops. Label: B.H. Wragge. Worn by fashion-beauty consultant Mira Linder.
