- Doug Noverr, Michigan State University Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures, delivers a talk entitled, "Two versions/visions of Irish immigrant history: Ron Howard's 'Far and away' (1992) and Martin Scorsese's 'Gangs of New York' (2002)". Noverr describes the films and their historical context and recounts Irish patterns of immigration, intermarriage with Native Americans, and settlement on the continent.
