- Soldiers and civilians enjoy Christmas celebrations in the Vienna Soldatenheim early in World War I. A children's "guard of honor" with flags and rifles stands in the middle of the photograph and an orchestra sits on the right. The Austrian YMCA sought to provide diversions for young men serving in the army.

- Boy prisoners at the Braunau-in-Boehmen prison camp receive dinners of soup from the wooden barrels in the camp compound. Serbian prisoners ladle out their dinners under the supervision of an Austrian NCO. The Association made special efforts to persuade Austrian authorities to concentrate boy prisoners in this camp. The Austrians incarcerated over 2,000 boys in the facility. They accompanied their fathers into battle and were captured by the Austrians.

- Austrian dragoons intercept and ride down two members of a Russian Cossack patrol. The Austrians have drawn their sabres as the Cossacks flee in terror. Cavalry patrols often captured enemy soldiers surprised by the sudden appearance of dragoons or Uhlans.

- This thirty-plus car train carries thousands of Russian prisoners of war into Austro-Hungarian captivity. The train is crossing a river in the Carpathian Mountains. Both the box cars and open cars are crammed with Russian POW's. The Austrian guards have sentry boxes, which provide them with some relief from the elements.

- A group of Russian boys in the prison camp at Wieselburg pose with Secretary John Klanmann. The Swedish secretary arranged for these boys to attend school to gain an education so they could become productive members of society when they returned home.

- Two groups of Italian prisoners at Mauthausen are stripped to the waist to show the effects of tuberculosis on their decimated bodies. Tuberculosis was a serious problem in prison camps during World War I and especially bad in Austrian camps.

- Serbian prisoners, including boys in the front row, practice their new reading skills in the elementary school at Boldogasszonyfa. Numbers and some of the letters of the alphabet in script and print are on the wall in the back of the room. The Association sought to make the time POW's spent in prison profitable in terms of teaching illiterates how to read and write.

- Prisoners of war at Kleinmuenchen used these 1915 notes to pay for purchases inside of the prison camp. This script could not be used outside of the prison facility to prevent the funding of escapes. POW's received these notes in payment for their work or for money sent from home.
