- Mounted sepia-toned photographic print showing fire tug JAMES BATTLE underway with four crewmembers visible on deck. Handwritten on verso, " fireboat "James Battle" launched at Det. shipbuilding yards in Wyandotte on Oct. 13 1900, went into service at foot of fifth St. on Jan. 15 1901, length 122 ft., beam 25 ft., draft 11 ft., speed 14 m.p.h. in 1936, was converted to diesel engine was decommisioned Feb. 1940 was sold to Sincennes-McNaughton firm of Montreal Canada, was streamlined into a tugboat and was still in service in 1972."

- Sepia-toned photo of the Belle Isle bridge burning on April 27, 1915, as taken from an elevated position along the Detroit riverfront to the west of the foot of the bridge. Most of the bridges trusses have burned, leaving bare columns however two trusses near the center of the river still stand, and one on the north side has partially collapsed into the river. The Detroit Fire Department fire tug JAMES BATTLE sprays water on the remaining trusses on the north end. A large cloud of smoke rises from the center trusses. In the foreground at the lower left, several spectators watch from the riverfront beyond a wooden fence.

- A mounted, glossy, sepia-toned photographic print of the "Launch of Fireboat James Battle," as titled at the lower left corner. The fire tug, stern facing the camera, is being side-launched and is kicking up a splash at Wyandotte's Detroit Shipbuilding Company. Crowds are visible along the sides of the dock, as well as on the roof of a structure in the foreground. A sailor, adjusting his footing, is on the deck of the JAMES BATTLE. "Detroit Photographic Co." is written in the lower right corner of the print. "With compliments of Wm. Cason," handwritten on verso. Matting is green cardstock.

Firefighters stand at the bow of the BATTLE, on the right side of the frame with its port side to the camera and the Detroit shore of the Detroit River, while smoke rises from the remaining trusses of the bridge on the right. Several bare columns, and another smoldering truss are visible further across the river in the background. The caption, "Burning of the Belle Isle Bridge, April 27, 1915," is printed along the bottom of the mat board.
