Back: Michigan State Capitol
Dedicated on January 1, 1879, the state capitol serves as the center for the state's executive and legislative activities, as well as a public forum for Michigan citizens. The four-storied central entrance pavilion is flanked by the balanced wings of the House and Senate and above the building floats a distinctive, graceful cast iron dome. The capitol was restored between 1989 and 1992.
Michigan's primary safety belt law has prevented an estimated 250 traffic deaths over the past five years. Buckle up as you travel across the state this summer. Visit www.michigan.org for destination ideas.
