"Unemployed autoworkers are attacked at Ford's River Rouge Plant, seeking relief as the worsening Depression tightened its grip on Detroit, 3,000 laid-off autoworkers marched on the Ford Motor Company's River Rouge plant in Dearborn, there, police and Ford security personnel used tear gas and water hoses on the crowd, when the demonstrators started throwing things, the police opened fire," from Michigan History Online website.
