Photograph. Sepia-toned photo showing the construction of a railroad bridge over the Rouge River. Printed text in the upper right corner of the photo shows the number, "30," and "M.C.R.R. River Rouge Bascule Bridge; Foundations; Dredging Rest Pier Cofferdam (Setting First Floor Beam, Background); Photo W. B. James, Bridge Inspector; Dec. 17, 1919." The view looks northeastward. Steel sheet piling as well as heavy timber pilings and cross-members are visible in the foreground. A portion of the old railroad bridge can the seen on the far left side of the photo and a construction crane can be seen on the right side. Several factory buildings are visible in the background. The ground is lightly covered with snow and small chunks of ice can be seen on the river.
