Men in Construction Pit

Description:
A group of unidentified men sometime around 1900, in a stone-walled construction pit. At street level in the background, a sign for "Wm. Leabs" can be seen on a building, as can a "Pipe Repairing" sign, and "Police Headquarters." The police department was located at City Hall, at the southeast corner of Capitol and Ottawa streets. The 1900 City Directory lists two William Leabs in Lansing, one a shoe shiner and the other a bartender.
