- Mounted photograph of Governor Charles M. Croswell posed with former governors Alpheus Felch, John J. Bagley, David H. Jerome, Henry P. Baldwin, and Austin Blair on the steps of the new Michigan State Capitol in Lansing on the day of its dedication, January 1, 1879. "The Governors and Ex-Governors of Michigan, Jan. 1st 1879, Mead & Jennings, Artists," has been printed along the bottom of the image, as though it were written on the ground. The names and dates of service have been handwritten on the matting adjacent to each governor.

Bagley Dear Sir, I sent with the etchings for you, a duplicate set for your mother. At least, I meant to, or have I made a mistake? Your letter which I have just received after an absence of two weeks, has reminded me, that I have not heard from hers, and so I write to ask. Yours very truly Th: Nast."
